DEAD ASTRONAUTS Interstellar travel is beyond human
science. With todayÕs
technology, it would take years to reach any but the nearest neighbor
planets. Interesting places like
Titan and Enceleladus are far away. Even those are just
local hops compared to travel to the stars. If Moses had launched the lost
tribe of Israel in a rocket as fast as an Apollo capsule, they would already
be a quarter of a light year away.
It would be another eighty thousand years before they reached the
nearest star. At ten times that
fast, theyÕd be more than half way there. They would still have a few thousand
years to go. Even at a hundred
times that fast, the journey would take almost a millennium. The technology to go
that fast is a long way off.
Somebody out there somewhere might have it today. What if aliens from a neighboring star
tried to come here? A lot can go
wrong in a thousand years. In Dead
Astronauts, an interstellar probe decelerates into earth orbit.
Nothing happens. An astronaut team discovers why. Its crew died in transit.
Exposed to whatever killed the aliens, can NASA let the explorers come home?
Quarantined and running out of air, how can they survive? Dead Astronauts is available from your favorite on-line book
dealer. Read an excerpt. You can buy it from my publisher here
today. You can also buy it from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Books-a-Million. Enjoy the story, but
donÕt eat the food. The kitchens
of NASA arenÕt as good as yours.
The book tours alien foods and kitchens. The Champagne Taste/Beer
Budget Cookbook presents the kind of food the astronauts
dream of coming home to. Media please see the
attached press kit. |

Woodrow
Wilson is a
Cal Tech Ph.D. and a research scientist who puts real science into fiction. He has detonated rocket fuel,
incinerated nerve gas, and studied twelve thousand mile per hour impacts in
the laboratory; he has modeled weapon effects, industrial explosions, and
high energy lasers in his computer; he has contributed to military programs
in medical defense, counterproliferation and
counterterrorism. He has a hundred stories to tell. Born in Pittsfield,
Massachusetts and raised under the star of Sputnik, Wilson was educated for
the space race. He earned a Bachelor's in Chemistry from Temple University in
Philadelphia then a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from Cal Tech in Pasadena. His
government contract research in military, medical, and environmental sciences
has taught him how big problems are attacked and how bureaucracy makes them
bigger. From his home near the
beach north of San Diego, Wilson explores the world from the ocean's depths
to near-earth orbit and beyond. His protagonists face pressure and pollution,
mortality and morbidity. Wilson knows the citizens of the medical and scientific
communities are more than just white lab coats; they're people facing
loneliness and insecurity, divorce and infidelity. Read more about them. Wilson is a widower. He has posted an on-line
tribute to his late wife. He enjoys cooking, especially hosting
dinner parties for two or four—filled with garlic and good wine.
Conversation and laughter. Check
below for a favorite simple recipe—check back for others from time to
time. He is the father of two
sons and the grandfather of five grandsons. His son Chuck is a civil engineer and
Bill is classical guitarist.
Visit BillÕs website for samples of his music. Both sons make their homes nearby so
the family gets together regularly.
Now a Toastmaster, Wilson
has achieved Distinguished Toastmaster status delivering speeches on history,
science and engineering. Wilson
is available as a speaker for Toastmasters and other functions. See some of his favorite topics. He is past president of the Encinitas
Toastmasters club, past Area Governor, past Division Governor, and
now Lieutenant Governor Education and Training for a District that runs from
San Diego to Yuma. Explore the DistrictÕs web site.
Visit the clubÕs

town. ThereÕs a great
Toastmasters club near you no matter where you live. Check the Toastmasters
International site for the closest ones. |
